Week 19, the end of first semester

I ended the semester by having the students reflect on how first semester went for them. I will have those comments and the results of a short survey on first semester next week. Therefore, I would like to spend this week answering the question, How do I see my action research impacting my teaching?

I am constantly aware of what I am doing. I have spent more time reflecting on how class went than ever before. I am more aware of things working and not working in class. I am continually telling myself that it is about the kids. I need to make it about them, it has to work for them. I never used to have that mentality. I would create lessons that were convenient for me and if they were a hit with the kids, that was an added bonus. I am much more analytical of my preparation for class. I try to view my class from the students perspective. My AR has made me a better teacher. I feel that the students are enjoying class more than students in the past, and most importantly, understanding the content more. My survey will provide a clearer picture of this.

My approach to my teaching will never be the same. I am convinced that I am on the right track with my new methods. I will continue to look for ideas and create lessons that have more focus on the student. My enjoyment of teaching has increased as a result of my research. I did not expect this affect, but I find that my energy is up and my senses are peaked each and every day. Remember, my next post will present the results of my survey. Until then, Happy Teaching!!
